15 hours and counting...

I'm in the Vegas airport waiting for my delayed connection, listening to Ray LaMontagne of course. I just bought tickets to a Ray LaMontagne concert off the Ray LaMontagne web site (an apaulingly cursory web presence), and a Ray LaMontagne hoodie is on its way through the mail to my little home in Glendale, where it will be loved like a sister.

I am busy thinking of ways to better get the word of Ray LaMontagne out to the world. I won't stop until I'm driving the special edition Ray LaMontagne Subaru Outback (rinsable interior for lumberjacks) with a Ray LaMontagne action figure keychain while listening to Ray LaMontagne on my customized Ray LaMontagne Ipod tuner in head-to-toe Ray LaMontagne-wear (we'll call it "RayWear" or something) complete with the kind of shoes he once made those years he worked in a shoe factory.

Is your sister going to be jealous of the hoodie?

If you like Ray try Patrick Park "Loneliness Knows my Name" or Joe Firstman "War of Women" they are two other melancholy musicians with some great lyrics.

I've been years trying to spread the Gospel Of Ray (tm). Like me, the guy is from Maine, and that's damn awesome. Hell, when he was homeless for a while, he built a cabin out in the woods, which is apparently when he grew that zeus-like beard.

I can't explain why I can't stop listening to his music. The guy sings emotion, pure and simple. I went to a concert of his down in Portland (east coast style) at the end of the summer. What blew me away was his bashfulness, his complete and utter quiet attitude untill he picks up the guitar and begins to sing.

It was awesome, one of the few times in my life I can use that word correctly. After he finished his set, the crowd got him to come back and play one song. He chose Barfly, from his (at the time unreleased) new album, Till The Sun Turns Black. An entire stadium fell quiet, nobody said a word. The mice stopped farting, and everyone in the crowd was focused on Ray, and his completely earnest outpouring of emotion. Dumbstruck, Awestruck, amazed. He is human, one of the few that truly admits to it.

You know Ray looks like Oddball from Kelly's Heroes. (Donald Sutherland for you kids)
Peace.

I resent that. I'm not a kid. I could go be a stripper in Vegas when I flunk out of college. Hmmm... idea.

Kelly's Heroes? What happened to Hogan's Heroes?

Yeah, okay. I'm a kid.

I feel the same way about Oingo Boingo. Ebay is your new best friend. I have 10 Boingo keychains, 5 LPs, 1 EP (which I got signed by 4 members of the band at their October 21st show at The Greek) and 1 vintage Oingo Boingo T-shirt, which I must unfortunately part with long enough to wash. It stinks. Remember, Bunny, it's not obsession until they get a restraining order!
