Jesus vs. "Jesus"

This might be the most disturbing thing I've ever read.

I am glad that the "true Christians" think the world is flat, it means they are going to have difficulty navigating far from their homes, so hopefully I will never have to meet one.

Let's just assume Pastor Jim Nicholls is playing a huge, elaborate practical joke on us.

Posted by: Pete at May 7, 2007 08:14 AM

Holy Fuck!. Before reading this I really just avoided Christians and their opinions on most of the world because it embarrassed me to be around them. I felt like if I was in the room while they were discussing the "certainties" in life maybe people will think I am an idiot too. But after seeing this, I am all for just tearing the church down. Lead us to action, Bunny!

Posted by: Mike at May 7, 2007 08:34 AM

Don't you think this site is just satire? It is clearly meant to make fun of the deluded people who really believe these things - maybe because they are off their meds?

Posted by: mb at May 7, 2007 08:35 AM

wow...hard to believe there's really people like that in the world

Posted by: Lisa at May 7, 2007 08:54 AM

Um... I'm honestly confused about the seriousness of that page... to me, that looks like someone has put some real effort in setting this up as a joke...

... or maybe that's just a defensive mechanism to protect my sanity and wish to live. Please tell me it is a joke.
This is so horrifying.

Posted by: Eva at May 7, 2007 08:59 AM

Wow, just wow! Where to start?
*In the second paragraph, we learn that only "morans" accept the Scientific Method. Nice.
*The "proof" that the world is flat is just outstanding, no questions there, only a moran would not be able to see that "four corners" is undeniable fact that the world is flat. No other interpretations possible.
*The plesiosaur photos are kinda cool, and it does make one wonder if there's not a tiny relict population out there in the world. If sharks and crocodilians managed to survive all this time, why not sea-based dinos?
*Without question, the show stopper has to be the last image in the dinosaur section of the page. It is an "artist's rendering of humans living with dinosaurs" and happens to be a shot of the fucking FLINTSTONES!!! I laughed my ass off over this one. The dude writing this shit cannot possibly be serious can he? I want to believe this site is a joke, a la landoverbaptist.com, but I am afraid this one is real. Its a scary scary world out there folks.

Posted by: Brandon at May 7, 2007 09:41 AM

It is definitely a joke. The kid's section has god getting mad because the tower of babel is making world peace happen, so he takes a bazooka and fires it at the world to split up mankind.

So I repeat, IT IS A JOKE.

Posted by: Kuroi Kaze at May 7, 2007 10:01 AM

I like how they denounce science and then use it to prove shark proteins are different than "dinosaur" proteins...

Posted by: Ashley at May 7, 2007 12:33 PM

I agree with Brandon, I'm 99% sure that site is a joke. Nobody could be THAT stupid...right?

Posted by: Tenincher at May 7, 2007 12:53 PM

OH!!! MY!!! GOD!!!!

Posted by: Heck at May 7, 2007 12:55 PM

Bunny, great link. People, the site is all a joke. I just entered the kidz bible and it's hilarious.
I guess sometimes humour is so subtle you can take it seriously, have it another go.

http://www.truechristian.com/kidznoah2.html

oh, and the poetical Babel story:
http://www.truechristian.com/kidzbabel.html

It's a very healthy laugh, holy evilness...

Posted by: Toegh at May 7, 2007 01:27 PM

Yeah, I stumbled onto that a couple weeks ago. I thought it was funny, though maybe that's because I live in Canada...

Posted by: Chizzer at May 7, 2007 01:45 PM

Yes, a joke quite obviously.

Flintstones come on? Read the section on Karl Rove, the sarcasm througought is quite apparent, though it's still a collection of different manifestation of "christian idealogy"

Posted by: Louis at May 7, 2007 02:06 PM

I really do hope to god (no pun intended) That this is some huge elaborate joke, coz any 'Christian' who'd call a person a retard or a nigger lover deserves to be hund drawn and quatered. What a dick.

And even if this is a joke, how immature??? I personally do not like Christians, mainly because I think 'gods word' is a pile of wank; I do however respect them - after all, the true Christians do do alot of good in the world. But to openly take the piss out of someones way of life like that is just wrong, no matter your own opinion.

But then, maybe I just think this way because I live in Britain - immigration central - and my government has taught me that having any opinion of anyones race or religion at all is instant discrimination

Posted by: Rachel at May 7, 2007 02:30 PM

true christians is clearly satire. he purposely misspells moron a million times. and the other parts of the webpage are dripping with sarcasm

Posted by: nitstits at May 7, 2007 04:34 PM

WOW. has to be a joke in the FAQs pages states a maths equation by dividing the worlds population by there parents etc and gets 9000 to 10000yrs old for the earth, in another FAq states that the bible says the earth is 6000yrs old thats a 33% at least descrepency. Even evolutionanists are a wee bit more on the money than that.
The report from Australia made me laugh, glad we jailed him (providing this is true and not a piss take) aaahhhh TWATS either way truth or hoax the writers are twats.
Keep up the good work bunny

Posted by: Jonathan at May 7, 2007 09:56 PM

I think it speaks volumes, that it was so hard to figure out whether or not that website is satire. The Flintstones picture is what set me off. Besides that, it looks just like a lot of other Christian propaganda sites.

Bunny,

So I did some research, this is what I found out.

Allow me to produce for you an essay: The Byrnell Theory.

After doing a whois on truechristian.net, I found out that a gent by the name of Charles Byrnell owns the website (and I'm assuming operates it as well). He also owns the website www.byrnell.com which is so very sadly down at the moment of this writing. Oh well, there's always more Google.

After driving my truck through the tunnels to discuss this Byrnell fellow with my contacts (Google, again), I found out that Charles lives in the UK; specifically a town called Fleet. The town is only relevant in that almost all of the posts I found were from a "Charles Byrnell" in Fleet, UK. I'm assuming for the purposes of this essay that all posts found dumped on the tubes are from the same person.

Initial analysis sees Charles referencing a website truecatholic.org. Looking at the website, it looks like truechristian.net is modeled after truecatholic.org. A whois on that domain leads me to believe that the truecatholic.org website is a legitimate operation - it's owned by the Roman Catholic Church. That along with the ridiculously misconstrued "facts" on truechristian.net led me to believe that Charles' website (truechristian.net) is a parody. However, upon further investigation I want to re-evaluate how I look at the website.

If you'll allow me to cite and analyze a few of Mr. Byrnell's interweb postings:

Post located: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/673922.stm suggests that Charles has a slightly conservative view on abortion.

Post located: http://travelsearch.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,564-1690893_1,00.html
suggests that Charles is more conservative in his views of gays (a nurture is greater than nature believer).

Post located: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?view=BLOGDETAIL&grid=F11&blog=yourview&xml=/news/2006/08/08/ublview08.xml suggests that he is cynical towards charity. He's not ignorant of their faults, more like frustrated with their effectiveness (or lack thereof).

Post located: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?view=BLOGDETAIL&grid=F11&blog=yourview&xml=/news/2006/01/18/blview18.xml suggests that he knows a lot about Christians and Catholics. It also suggests animosity towards Catholics - what I think is a rather important detail.

Post located: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=444941&in_page_id=1770 suggests that he dislikes slavery, but doesn't think that the UK on the whole should be shamed, just the people responsible. In my opinion (I hate that saying, EVERYTHING I say is "in my opinion") based on the way he makes this argument, this suggests a slightly more conservative view (because I'm a dirty lib).

Post located: http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/organgrinder/2006/01/news_international_gays_and_li.html suggests again that Charles has a slightly more conservative view on gays, although he doesn't outright admit disapproval. Perhaps he is just playing devil's advocate in that case.

Post located: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/article548540.ece?token=null&offset=12 again suggests that Charles is conservative on his views regarding gays and religion. He's complaining about bishops "tolerating" gay marriage.

Post located: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article1403702.ece suggests more animosity towards the Roman Catholic church.

OK so here's my analysis [read: conspiracy theory that I half believe]:

I think that Charles is a rather conservative and religious person who is angry at the fact that organized religion - and society at large - is becoming more liberal. The website is obviously a parody; Charles has proven in his internet postings that he's not _that_ stupid. The website is developed for him to vent his frustrations, but I think part of him wants to dig at religion because it has "failed" him. I think he wanted to develop this site to dig at Christians, not because he hates organized religion, but because he's a Catholic and disagrees with their interpretation of religion. It's goddamned religious turf wars!!

Maybe that last part is a bit of a stretch. I do think that he might be trying for some sort of religious espionage, though.

Another theory...

He could just someone who was raised religious (and thus is familiar with the practices), has flipped 180*, and now plays devil's advocate online.

Ultimately, though, the website should be taken as crap. I mean, come ON. Purple background? No CSS? Marquees? What is this, 1996?

I will say that I really do hate it when I hear certain creationist friends of mine say this: "Carbon dating isn't correct! Carbon dating can't be proven! Science is just a theory!"

I'd rather follow a theory that had a shit load of proof and logic behind it than a theory that was based off of blind faith. The creationists I've talked to sound more brainwashed than educated. It makes me nuts...and slightly depressed.

Posted by: Michelle at May 8, 2007 10:35 PM

"As everyone knows, science is retarded."

Heh heh heh. Classic.

Posted by: gravyboat at May 9, 2007 05:29 PM

If you'll allow me to cite and analyze a few of Mr. Byrnell's interweb postings:

Maybe I'm missing this, but I can't find anytning attributed to a Charles or a Byrnell on any of those pages.

I do however want to stab out my own eyes for having read some of those 'debates'.

Posted by: Scootah at May 9, 2007 11:26 PM

From True Christian: "If you're so smart then why can 14 year olds figure out what I'm really saying on this website, yet you're to stupid not to figure it out? You have no common sense."
The site is satire, people.

Posted by: Gavin at May 11, 2007 12:03 AM

The "Jesus vs. Jeezus" cartoon reminds me of Chester Brown's cartoon renditions of New Testament stories. His Jesus isn't a goy and certainly isn't pretty. His eyes are slits, his nose is like a hawk's bill. He is tall and physically impressive, frightening even; I can easily imagine him throwing moneychangers out of the temple. But he ain't pretty, and his message was not jingoistic or comfortable, then or now.

Best of all, Brown's cartoons are taken straight from the text. His embellishments are few and instantly recognizable as such. Oddly enough, the stories I recall being taught about Jesus were embellished, softened a bit. Jesus was terse and angry and violent.

Brown himself abandoned Christianity as a result of the research he did in drawing his cartoons.

http://citypages.com/databank/19/942/article6828.asp has a decent article on Brown's cartoons.

I haven't read everyone's comments, so maybe someone else noticed that the site author spelled moron incorrectly? As in MORAN. That. Made. My. Day!

Posted by: Jen M at May 13, 2007 11:49 PM

Why is it that every christian site I see is almost always horribly coded, and unbelively ugly?

Posted by: Ashley Squared at May 20, 2007 03:26 PM

The part that made me laugh the hardest was you had to be 18 or over to enter the kids zone.

Posted by: Chris at August 19, 2007 05:40 PM

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

What a bunch of "morans"...

Posted by: Emily at September 20, 2007 09:21 PM

I know I'm a bit late commenting on this post, but I just thought you might want to know this. TrueChristian.com is indeed a parody site. I've talked with the owner a few times, and she filled me in on it. Apparently, the site was owned by a Pastor Jim Nichols, but he decided to put it up for auction on the internet, where the current author bought it. So it started off as a real site, but since the change of ownership, it's become a parody site. And just in case anyone missed it, Pastor Jim is now a woman. Just fyi.
