Wow - March 26, 2007

(Printer Friendly Version)

Just...wow.

Edit: WTF? Someone just left a comment on my site saying they didn't like her nails and makeup. What in the fucking blazes do her nails and makeup have to do with her voice? Jesus Christ, people, this is why you turn on American radio, and turn it right the fuck back off again.

Trixie Edit: Seriously, like how shallow can you get?

We finally have something in common! I'm kind of obsessed with her. It's becoming a problem.

She's okay. But I'll take Joss Stone over her any day of the week.

In England, there are two very popular female vocalists, singing what I would broadly define as soul music. The gulf between the pair is vast.

First of all there is Amy, who is the real deal; who has a deep understanding and passion for the material she tackles; who is a good writer; who has a big personality and disorderly lifestyle that feeds her performances; who is also as funny as fuck.

Then there is Joss Stone who has vocal ability, but will never be a soul singer, no matter long she labours the point. For her it's all about imitation - karaoke. The music's not in her heart. She hasn't the experience to breathe life into it, nor the personality type to ever seek out that experience. She doesn't understand that the performance - what you show on record or onstage, is only the tip of the iceberg.

Absolutely. Joss can sing, but she can't carry Amy's jock. She fucking rules. And she's hot too. But I may be a touch biased.

A friend of mine turned me on to Amy Winehouse a few years ago and I thought she was fabulous then, but she never really got any exposure here in Aus until Rehab destroyed the UK charts.

Anyone who can be considered a corrupting influence on one of the Osbournes is ok by me.

Posted by: Scootah at March 27, 2007 07:58 PM

huh. I thought it was awful. She mumble-grunted into the microphone and twitched randomly.

I don't even bother turning the radio on in the first place anymore.

I have angered TheBunny. For that I am sorry.

A friend of mine in England turned me on to Amy Winehouse last year, love her. The friend as well as Amy Winehouse, that is. She just played the Roxy (Winehouse, not "the friend")and I knew she was gonna be there, and I so wanted to go, but - but I didn't.love, love love to see this woman live. She's the fuckin' bomb, finally some musical soul in this new so-far soulless-seeming millennium. I like her. Quite a bit. But not as much as I like Bunny. Well, kind of 50/50. No, maybe Amy 40/Bunny 60. No, Bunny 70. oh, shit. anyway...

Bunny...'wow' is right, this is amazing, thank you for introducing me to her music...and consequently making me question my sexuality...brilliant.

It's strange. I really, really, really liked that song on radio play, but didn't like the vocal gymnastics and the strange sense of boredom on that clip at all!

she's dank, another female vocalist (who happens to be the most amazing thing ever) is joanna newsom, if you haven't heard her, i'd say check it out.

Thank you, thank you Bunny for turning me on to this woman. I have read, listened to and watched everything I could find about her in the last week or so. I haven't been this enthralled with someone since...well since I stumbled upon your site. *genuflects*
